How to Cut Your Own Hair Men

We know how important it is to have your hair groomed… but when all salons and barbers are closed, what do you do? We’re going to show you how to cut your own hair with some essential grooming tools.

We want you to still look and feel your best while in quarantine.

Follow these tips and you’ll be able to give yourself a basic cut in no time. Once you become a pro, you won’t have to be spending money on constant cuts. See, we’ve got your back!

Step 1: Prepare your hair

You want to wash your hair with a good shampoo and conditioner. Towel dry your hair, but make sure it’s still damp. It’s best to cut clean damp hair!

Step 2: Position yourself in a mirror

Make sure you can see what you’re doing as much as possible. Use a large mirror but have other hand mirrors next to you so you can see the back of your head.

Step 3: Section your hair into parts and comb it into its natural state.

Step 4: Cut the back and sides with clippers

Clippers are best to use for the back and sides of your hair. Set your guard on the clippers to 1 or 2 if this is your first time cutting hair. This will help make minor cuts and limit mistakes. Make sure to cut one side of your head at a time. Trim from the bottom of the sides to the top. Tilt the clippers at an angle to create an even fade.

Step 5: Move to the back of your head

Trim the back of your head the same way you did for the sides--bottom to top. Use a mirror behind you so you can check how you are cutting the back. As a friend to help! Remember to use the same guard length so your hair cut will be even.

Step 6: Go over the lower half with a short setting

Even out your fade by using a shorter setting on your clippers. Focus around your temples and earlobes to create a smoother, almost “gradient” look.

Step 7: Use Scissors to fix it up!

Use scissors to cut the top of your head. You can use this to shape the top of your hair and give yourself more texture. You can also use it precisely to fix up and clipper mistakes. Always use your fingers and a travelling guide. Cut less than you would, just to be careful!

Step 8: Finishing Touches

Grab your mirror and check your cut to see if it’s even. You can always touch up using your scissors. Use a comb to blend your hair altogether. You can taper your neckline with clippers or a beard trimmer if needed!

Step 9: Style Your Hair

It’s always good to style your hair immediately after cutting it. You’ll be able to see if there are any mistakes or unevenness in your cutting. Use a moisturizing hair balm or a light gel to keep your hair in place.

There you have it!

An easy way to cut your hair and look good without having to go to a barber shop. Take your time with it and be careful. Always start off slow and cut little by little!

Have fun and good luck.
